I had a very disappointing experience with D-Link, which I wanted to make available to this forum.
I purchased a D-Link DI-614+, 22 Mbps Wireless Cable/DSL router/switch and the companion DWL650+ PCMCIA Card. I have been using 11Mbps components for some time and expected to be able to install the new components in a short time.
Having first installed the router/switch, I discovered that I could not use my Eurdora e-mail and that my existing 802.11b 11Mbps card would not connect to the wireless.
I called D-Link, waited on hold for 20 Minutes and was told to install a later version of the firmware. This cured the E-mail problem, but I still could not communicate with the old 802.11b card.
I installed the D-link 22Mbps card. It communicated perfectly and had approximately 55% greater throughput than my existing components. I then tried to enable the WAP to secure the network. I discovered that the laptop utility to configure the PCMCIA card could not find the working card. After installing updated drivers I called D-Link support again.
I waited on hold more than 45 minutes. I then spent another 1.5 hours on the phone with technical support people who did not have the skills to assist me and with poor language skills, making it difficult to communicate. After the hour and a half, I was disconnected, and never received a communication from D-Link trying to resolve my problem.
The problems were never resolved, and I have returned the units. It appears that the D-link 22Mbps components and their associated softwore and support personnel are not yet ready for market.
