with a linksys wireless router, both the desktop (wired) and the laptop (wireless) work ok, but the sony clie's wireless connection is very slow. shouldn't it be approximately the same speed as the laptop's wireless connection? is there any way to fix this?

what do you mean slow? please explain.
also:
what type of linksys AP do you have 802.11b or 802.11g?
what client cards are you using in the desktop?
I assume you are using the Clie' with built in WiFi. If not, please include which card you are using.

remember that PDA's usually have a really low speed processor (Clie uses a 200MHz) compared to desktops (2000MHz) and a much lower amount memory, which could give the impression of being slower.

it's an 802.11b network
i'm using a Clie NX70V with a PEG-WL110 wireless card

i'm not entirely sure what you mean by client cards on the desktop. the wireless router has 4 wired ports on the back, and the desktop is hooked up via an Ethernet cable through the router.

this clie model has a newer processor, so it should be a little faster. i can't imagine that it would slow down that much, would it? maybe other people have speed comparisons when using their clie's. for me, it takes several minutes even for the yahoo homepage to load on my clie.

right, sorry, I missed the 'wired' part of the original post.

You should see a dramatically faster speed with your desktop than with the clie'. Although, a page should take a few seconds, not a few minutes.

If the clie' came with client utilities to guage your wireless signal strenth and speed? if so, check to see your getting a good connection.

You might wanna wait for someone with a clie' to compare notes with. I use an iPAQ and it's pretty fast, but no where as fast as my desktop. It's like using a 28.8 modem again.
