I wrote earlier seeking advice on how to boost a signal; I finally made progress with Linksys - many calls - to ultimately learn that they put out new firmware that lets the WAP11 act as a repeater.

I have a Linksys Wirless Access Point (model WAP11) now set to repeater mode. Repeater mode is a new feature using firmware version 1.07 that allows the unit to pick up another Linksys AP signal and repeat/stregthen it.

However, I don't own the other AP - it's on a College network, off-campus wireless buble.

Does anyone know how to clone a MAC address? Or any advice about MAC addresses, what they are, if there is a common default, how to track one down? etc.?

This would be great help as I'm 99% of the way (I hope) to giving 6 college students access to boosting the signal they get.

Thank you!

Doug.

The college uses WAP11s for their network? If so, you'll need to tell your WAP11 the wired MAC address of the WAP11 whose signal you want to repeat. If not, you'll have to look into a different solution.

Here's one. If you get a WET11, you can set up the following: http://kb.linksys.com/cgi-bin/om_isapi.dll?clientID=137985&QuestionText=befw11s4%20wap11&SelectName1=&advquery=%5bs%5d%5bRank%2c%2050%3a%5bSum%3a%20befw 11s4%20wap11%5d%5bMerge%3a%20%5bThesaurus%3a%20bef w11s4%20wap11%5d%5d%5d&infobase=linksysrev.nfo&record={44D}&softpage=IKW_ENU_JDocView.
