Hey guys, im running into a problem here. I have a netgear he102 access point. Its used for 3 computers. Its located in my basement( i know its a bad location!) i get service up in my house, but its very weak! I was told by nethear if i buy another access point, which i did(he102) i could "extend" my wireless network. He said just plug it in the wall, configure it to the same settings as the other access point and it will work. But it doesnt!!! Does EVERY aspect have to be the same including the MAC address, or did this guy give me wrong info. Right now i have 2 access points and the second one doesnt give internet unless it has an rj45 cable in it ( i tested it at my router) any info would be great!

I'm am not familiar with that product, but I do understand what your saying. I beleave you would need to configure the second AP as a repeater. It should be a mode type setting.

You have to set AP-1 as "root/main AP", and in the second AP (wireless only) set the MAC address of the first AP.

I dont have an option to change the AP to root/main. But i can change the address. Should i change the gateway/MAC and other address to match?

Changing the MAC is not going to work. Your helpful person at Netgear assumed you would cable ( CAT 5) the AP up to your network. Then you would be able to "roam" from one AP to another. Is this correct? Did you connect the additional AP up to your network with Ethernet?

no, i didnt. I was told by netgear it would act as a repeater, and i wouldnt need the cat 5 connected!

I don't believe the HE102 has the repeator capability, which I guess you all ready know by now. So he did tell you it would act as a repeator huh?

Thats why i called netgear, to make sure it would work before i bought it, i'll have to find time again to call them up and really yell at them about this. But if i want thew network extended, i should just make sure the access point has a repeater fuction, right?

That is correct.
I checked the he102 documentation and is doesn't say anything about repeator functionality.
