Hi. I recently installed a netgear wireless usb adapter (MA 101)
on my xp pro machine, and ran into all sorts of problems. Subsequently I learned that this device - and many other vendor's devices - have problems with xp, despite their "works with xp" labeling on the packaging. (as an aside, the xp
installation wizard warned that proceeding with the installation of the netgear device could disrupt your system - they meant it!).

I'm looking for some reliable information on a good wireless usb adapter that is compatible with xp pro - both according to the vendor and the xp installation wizard.

thanks.

Hi,
I am running a Linksys usb wireless adapter (Wusb11 ver 2.6) and it works wonderfully. One thing to consider:
I have noticed sometimes that XP likes to have the software for a device installed first before the hardware is attached (i thought we were supposed to be moving away from this....) My linksys required me to install software, attach hardware, then install drivers. I wasn't aware of this and just tried to install the way I usually do, and nothing worked. I went back and reread everything and installed it the proper way and viola, everything worked fine. Check the manual or manufacturers website for any info.
But anyway, mine seems to be working great. Hope this helps.

HonoluaBay-

I exchanged the netgear usb wireless adapter for the linksys adapter ( WUSB11 ver. 2.6), and the linksys device worked just fine. Worth noting that xp pro objected to the netgear device during installation, but not the linksys device.

thanks for taking the time to reply.
