Does 11g always work faster than 11b ?

I found that 11g requires very high RF signal quality or otherwise the speed is much slower than 11b. I used Proxim Orinoco AP2000 for testing(two cards, single mode). When the S/N ratio is over 20db, the effective throughput is very fast and over 20M. It will down to 2M if it is below 20db. However, 11b is still working very good at about 4 to 5M.

Thus, external antenna is a must for 11g network deployment.

Is the same problem happened for other 11g APs ?

I have not had that problem with the Dlink DI-624 or the Linksys WRT54G. Using DWL520G PCI, DWL650G, or the WPC54G. However I not monitored the signal in that way, the speeds i have seen are variable and directly relate to str/quality of the signal.
