Well first I would like to say hello to everyone in the forums. I decided to join after much reading on 802.11 material, but still much confusion. I have a probelm and would like to find a solution. Anyone who can help me would be greatley apriciated. This is my problem. I have a house on the corner of the block that I live and my nephews lives just down the street on the corner of the same block. Up untill 4 months ago I could not afford their cable connection, and we are no longer able to play online games together. I found out it is possible to share my connection with 802.11 WLAN. I have'nt found many tutorials. But if someone could point me in the right direction it would be cool. This is what I have figured out as a set up so far.

Well, if your just looking to share between 2 points (your house and your nephew's) then you don't need an omni directional antenna. Mounting a direction antenna on each house, facing the other shoudl do it, depending on what kind of interference you may have from trees, neighbors houses, power lines, etc.

Basically, you settup should be like this:
Internet-Cable modem-router/AP-Antenna at your end.

At his end, the easiest thing to do would be to get an wireless ethernet bridge. and go something like this:
Antenna-Bridge-ethernet

here is a link that has lots of good equipment, and even sells building to building bridge kits, wich is what you would need

hi all,
Just a quick note about safety for external antennas, you may want to look at some form of lightning surpressor and earthing rod. I think the risk far outweighs the cost of equipment. I'm not sure if some of the external antennas are coming with surpressors as standard?
But before any outside implement you should look at this risk area and put in a safety system.
wish you luck in your project
