I have a Vaio picturebook (Win 98ME) with an inopoerable PCMCIA slot. Sony says $800+ to repair. I want to use a wireless card nevertheless. I have a Lucent (now Orinoco) Turbo Gold card that I know works with an older Picturebook. I purchased a Linksys USB-Ethernet adapter and it works fine. But a Synchrotech USB-PC card reader adapter will not permit the Vaio to see the Orinoco card. I reinstalled the latest drivers but no luck. Synchrotech FAQ says USB does not support I/O devices, but that doesn't seem to apply to 10-100 Ethernet. Is there a way to get 802.11b running on this machine, short of an outboard USB box?
