I have seen a few applications of WLANs that are really worth mentioning that are implemented at District 20 Schools in Colorado Springs, CO... This is the most impressive

Wireless Deaf Student - Note taker Arrangement

The deaf student runs a laptop with TridiaVCS or Radmin Server software and a 802.11b card in Ad Hoc mode (or if a network is available, Infrastructure) The note taker runs the client of the same application on another laptop with a network card. The student opens a Word Document which the note taker types the words into that are heard from the teacher. The student reads the notes as they are taken on the other laptop. The student can interrupt the note taker by taking the cursor away from the note taker and typing a question which the note taker poses to the teacher. The note taker types the answer to the deaf student's question... When the class is over, the student saves his notes for the day and takes them home in his laptop. If the laptop is connected to a network, the student can also store the document on the file server.

District 20 Schools in Colorado Springs would appreciate donations of used slower laptops and PCMCIA cards to offer this application to more of their deaf students in the school district.
