I am looking for some RF attenuation specs for an outdoor NEMA 4X type enclosure. A specific enclosure manufacturer would be better yet.

Looking to mount a Cisco 1200 802.11A AP, antenna and all, outdoors in a weather tight enclosure. From a security standpoint, prefer NOT to use a metal box with a glass window if possible.

I'm hearing that fiberglass is not as good as polycarborate from, an RF friendlyness standpoint, and PVC lies in the middle.

Thanks,
Bill

check out www.winncom.com

they have some real nice enclosures. I think the best thing to do is mount your antenna outside the enclosure; that's how it's usually done. You can get boxes with cooling fans and heaters.

For the down and dirty SOHO install, how about a tupperware container and silcone sealant? El cheapo delux.

Allied Electronics has a website at www.alliedelec.com
Look on page 54 in their online catalog in the Hammond PJ Series NEMA 4/4X of fibreglas/polyester at midpage.

It is a watertight electrical junction box with a stainless piano hinge, a nice latching mechanism and a thick rubber gasket.

It is designed to protect against water from direct spray from a hose nozzle. The holes can be cut in the case with a chassis punch, so the hole is clean and easy to gasket.

You can use Halex "strain relief cord connectors" from Home Depot's electrical department for the water-tight cord entry, and bulkhead N connectors for radio signals
