Does anyone know which hardware supports the TKIP feature?
I don't understand if the client needs to have the first key set as the key on the AP or even the first key is transmitted over the air... does anyone know?

all TKIP is going to be pre-standard at this point, so vendor interoperability is going to be a major issue.
IEEE 802.11i will standardize TKIP and a few other things besides. WPA (from WECA) will also specify and standardize TKIP pre-11i.
Wait until WPA, at least.

Hi,
TKIP is a 'fix' for WEP, it will be standardised in 802.11i but will not be 'best' encryption. However it is enough for todays market, if you buy a TKIP product it will be 802.11i compatible (or at least 802.11i will be backward compatible with it).
The way it works is that it mixes the WEP key with the transmitters address to produce a key that is used as the WEP key, which is then mixed with the IV.
TKIP will be used in the future so no worries about buying it before 802.11i
