When WISPs build out in public places like airports, do they use the existing ethernet infrastructure, or do they actually install ALL of their own equipment........

Wayport advertises coverage at all gates at DFW airport, quite a sizeable project. I'm trying to figure out how much build out at such a facility must cost.

To answer your first question it depends on the current layout of the existing site. Most places I would have to say do not have an existent Ethernet infrastructure. In this case I believe it is best to have a well-known local service provider come in and set up a connection. This allows your business just to stay specialized in 802.11. If the connection goes down technical difficulties are experience within the connection it will not be your problem. Dealing with the connection is one less thing to worry about also hey have experienced technicians which can be on site and trouble shoot. I have found there is not as great a return on investment when I set up and connection for them. Yet I would handle all the servers and LAN.

Secondly, to accurately estimate hardware, software, material, resources, and overall cost etc. of a project it is necessary to perform a site survey, in which the actually installer comes in a lays out every aspect of the network and makes a proposal. But there is a lot more to the site survey than that.

If you would like me to come out and do a site survey or do the project for a small commission, I would be more than happy to.

Thanks,
Brett
