Has anyone used the BVT Yellowjacket for testing a WIFI network? Is it good? Are there some other comparable test units out there for about the same price? Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I'm curious if anyone out ther eis actually testing their networks due to the lack of response to this post. Does anyone use anything or is everyone just flying by the seat of thier pants?

I suspect many people use whatever vendor-supplied survey software comes with products they deploy, and maybe a spectrum analyzer. We do.

Some other 3rd party survey tools I'm aware of:
netstumbler.com -- net stumbler, mini-stumbler
wirelessvalley.com -- site planner, LAN planner
airmagnet.com -- airmagnet (a/b support)
networkinstruments.com -- observer (a/b support)
wildpackets.com -- airopeek

Yellowjacket is a good tool for RF measurement, but it doesn't have much in the way of protocol analysis. Other tools such as Airmagnet and Airopeek analyze protocols. You can refer to the product reviews within 802.11planet for more details on these tools.

Here's a good rundown of some available tools (despite the sinister title): http://www.networkmagazine.com/article/NMG20030305S0001
